A Note from HROC: Robert Anthony Lichowid and his wife Jeannette were active parishioners of HROC approximately from 2007 to 2017 when they lived in Claremont. Later, they moved closer to their daughter’s family in Maine.
Rob was a very kind-hearted and outgoing person. When introducing himself, he used to say, “I am a retired medic and Firefighter of 37 years, so I have some medical experience, and I am a carpenter. My truck and I are available tomorrow if you need some help.” And you could be sure there were always people around who appreciated his help.
He was that kind of Godsend volunteer who was responsive to others’ needs and had a subtle sense of humor. If he gave somebody a ride to the hospital, he would stay to support the patient until their appointment and would certainly return to their home to take care of the dog left alone.
He was that kind of diligent handyman who could help with tasks like cutting and stacking wood for winter or building an addition to the house; he would only ask, “Would I need my carpentry tools or my chain saw?”. After mowing the church lawn, one of his emails stated, “I finished about 85% of the grass and leaves....I have one side by the two sets of swings to finish... It was raining....., and I will finish on Friday. - Rob, ‘the small engine repair volunteer and church servant.’”
He also could offer wholehearted prayers for individuals or nations alike. In the HROC archive, we have his email requesting prayers for Israel during a politically challenging situation, as well as another email expressing his support for a local family: “It was nice what HROC did for the little child even though they were not Orthodox. My prayers are with that family, and I know Christ our Lord will bless the parish for this Christian act of kindness.”
After he passed away, one of his old emails took on special significance: “Mine birthday is Memorial Day. It’s nice to celebrate the life of Christ within us each day and on our Birthdays. Christ has Risen!”
Indeed He is Risen, dear Rob!
May the Lord God rest your soul with the Saints! The HROC remembers you fondly.
